About

Wesley Touchstone is a sculptor whose work grows from a lifelong connection to nature and organic form. He began sculpting early and later worked in his family’s wildlife casting business, gaining hands on experience with foam, clay, and fiberglass. The loss of his son in 1989 reshaped his artistic direction, leading to deeply personal work, including his first portrait bust, Matthew. Wesley’s practice expanded through years of carving large scale props for the film industry, where he developed a broad command of materials, tools, and surface techniques. Today, he works in foam, epoxy glass composites, marble, and bronze, creating sculptures that range from intimate studies to large public artworks — including recent installations in Florida. His work centers on preserving moments, memories, and stories. Each piece is an exploration of form, emotion, and craft, reflecting an ongoing commitment to learning, refining, and growing as an artist.

Artist Statement

My sculptural work moves between stylized, character driven forms and more grounded, textural approaches. Drawing from a background in large scale sculpture and themed environments, I work in foam, epoxy glass surfaces, and mixed materials to create pieces that are visually engaging, approachable, and intentionally crafted for public interaction. Each sculpture begins as a gesture or idea and develops through carving, layering, and surface refinement. I approach every project as a modular experiment - a way to explore form, emotion, and story while balancing whimsy with structural clarity. In public settings, I focus on creating work that feels alive and tactile, offering viewers a moment of connection, curiosity, or recognition. My goal is to build pieces that hold presence in shared spaces and contribute to the character and experience of the communities they inhabit.
