Laterina Latrunda Taylor, widely known as PHOENIX, is a 2023 Literary Fellowship Award recipient, a Writer-in-Residence at the prestigious Kallenberg Artist Tower (KAT), and a Shreveport Regional Arts Roster Artist. As a renowned poet, spoken word artist, sculptor, visual artist, published author of 6 books (four are poetry books), and motivational speaker, she has emerged as a commanding force in contemporary literature and the arts. Hailing from Shreveport, Louisiana, PHOENIX’s work transcends boundaries, using raw emotion, profound storytelling, and thought-provoking themes to inspire and uplift. She is the author of five poetry books and two motivational books, with her work featured in Poetry Magazines, solidifying her place as an influential literary voice. She has also released a spoken word album available on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon Music, Pandora, and YouTube, allowing her powerful performances to reach global audiences. Beyond her literary and artistic achievements, PHOENIX is a certified life coach and sought-after motivational speaker who has graced conferences, seminars, and high-profile events. She is a featured poet at galas, college graduations, and other special events, delivering electrifying performances that leave lasting impressions. She has also hosted spoken word showcases and performed before the Shreveport City Council, using her platform to inspire and advocate for change. A passionate advocate for empowering youth and revitalizing the arts, PHOENIX is deeply involved in anti-bullying initiatives and fostering creative expression among young people. She hosts literature and spoken word workshops for youth, providing them with the tools to develop their voices, express themselves authentically, and build confidence. Artist Statement

Art, for me, is more than expression—it is survival, transformation, and revolution. As a poet, spoken word artist, sculptor, and visual storyteller, I use my craft to unveil truths, ignite change, and inspire healing. My work is deeply rooted in lived experience, shaped by the resilience of my journey, and fueled by an unrelenting passion to give voice to the silenced. Through poetry and spoken word, I explore themes of empowerment, justice, mental health, and self-discovery. My performances are not just recitations; they are immersive experiences—rhythmic, raw, and deeply personal. Every word I speak is an echo of the unspoken, a lifeline for those who feel unseen, and a call to action for those willing to listen. As a sculptor and visual artist, I create pieces that embody emotion, struggle, and triumph. Each work serves as a reflection of inner battles and external realities, transforming pain into something tangible and powerful. I believe in the alchemy of art—how it can turn suffering into beauty, and how it can open hearts and minds to new perspectives. Beyond the canvas and the stage, I am committed to empowering youth and fostering the arts.
