Still Walking in Mocs: Indigenous Identity Beyond the Edge of the Trail Bowery Art Collective is announcing the open call for artists to participate in our upcoming group show Still Walking in Mocs, opening October 2nd, 2025. We are currently accepting applications from Indigenous artists. This exhibition will be curated by Rappahannock artist Devon Borkowski, with the goal of enlightening the public to an American history that extends before and beyond Columbus and Colonization. To tell Native stories in our own words, and show that we exist in a modern context, not just as sad relics of America’s past. This exhibition focuses on the history of this nation from the perspective of the Land. Too often Americans are told that the story of their home starts with European ships on the horizon, and can only be trusted when recorded in the English language (a language entirely foreign to this soil). We are striving to present a thriving tapestry of culture and history beyond that, told through the art of modern Indigenous people. Natives of all ages and tribes are encouraged to apply. Bowery Art Collective, is a 501(c)3 nonprofit gallery located in Metuchen, NJ, that introduces art experiences centered on diverse perspectives, collaborative creation, bridge-building, open dialogue, cultural preservation, and reimagining conventional knowledge. Since our inception in 2020, we have become a mainstay in the Metuchen arts scene, serving as an artist incubator dedicated to nurturing the careers of emerging artists, curators, and future art educators within the age range 18-25.
