About

Ann George grew up in a small Louisiana town, surrounded by people and places that grounded her roots deep in the southern soil and her heart in its fertile personality. She uses photography as a means to celebrate her native Louisiana as well as the people, places, and stories that move her. Critics say that her photographic approach is mysterious and poetic, continuing a pictorial tradition important in the history of photography. Ann is also a registered nurse. She founded a chain of hospitals designed to treat seriously ill patients. Now, as a photographer, she channels her passion for healing from the physical to the visual art form and has found another way to affect others through the eyes of her lens She has received numerous prestigious awards both nationally and internationally. Her work has been published in numerous magazines, periodicals, and books and has been acquired in many private and public collections. She has exhibited in the United States and abroad, including in Argentina, Australia, Europe, and notably in the Louvre in Paris, France. Her most recent exposure with NPR, The Picture Show, represents her work with the suffrage movement, memorializing women’s right to vote. Selected to present and lecture at the prestigious Annenberg Gallery in Los Angeles, keynote speaker for Camera Craftsmen International conference in Quebec, and many other venues and teaching workshops, she shares readily her inspiration and recipes for image-making. Ann creates images that call to her vintage eye, propelling her to seek different approaches and techniques in the camera, in the computer, in printing, and in paint.

Artist Statement

My work as a fine art photographer is grounded in storytelling through imagery, creating narratives that are both personal and universal. Each photograph is conceived as part of a larger journey—projects that unfold like chapters in a story, layering meaning and emotion through visual language. The images I create often carry a painterly quality, evoking a sense of timelessness while nodding to a vintage aesthetic. Some moments are discovered in the world as they unfold, while others are carefully constructed to communicate meaning. This blend of found and created imagery allows me to shape visual metaphors that reflect memory, emotion, and the shifting nature of experience. Mystery and atmosphere are at the core of my practice. Shadows, textures, and subtle details invite reflection, leaving room for interpretation as if each work is a fragment of a dream or memory. Adaptability guides my process as life events and changing perspectives shape each body of work, allowing the photographs to evolve with me. Through this union of narrative, construction, and chance, I aim to craft images that resonate beyond the immediate moment and linger with the viewer. "I make a humble attempt to portray the role of an inspirational storyteller through imagery. There is a certain language I know that art communicates, not with words. There is a rhythm, a diction, and symbols that represent feelings and emotions that speak this language, the language of art.”
