About

Leigh Anne Norman is a Louisiana-based artist specializing in detailed acrylic and mixed media works that celebrate the natural world. Operating under the studio name CrossroadsArtCo, Norman’s creative practice is deeply rooted in the rural community of Crossroads, where a childhood spent among animals and the outdoors first sparked a lifelong fascination with native wildlife. Though largely self-taught, Norman’s artistic foundation began with childhood oil painting lessons and years of observational sketching. After returning to the canvas with a renewed sense of purpose, she has dedicated her practice to capturing each subject's unique presence and individuality. She is particularly driven by the technical challenge of capturing the natural world, finding deep satisfaction in accurately rendering the intricate textures of fur, feathers, and scales. For Norman, art is a process of transformation. She finds a distinct thrill in taking a blank, empty canvas and evolving it into something vibrant and new. By blending careful observation with personal memory, she creates work that preserves the quiet beauty and tactile spirit of rural life.

Artist Statement

My work is rooted in a childhood spent outdoors in rural Louisiana, in a small community called Crossroads where the animals outnumbered the people. An early connection to the natural world around me continues to shape both my subject matter and perspective. Aside from a few oil painting lessons around the age of ten, my practice has developed independently. This self-directed path led me back to painting with a refined perspective, primarily working in acrylic to create detailed, realistic portrayals that capture the presence and individuality of each subject. My wildlife paintings frequently feature species native to the region where I was raised, blending personal memory with careful observation. The name CrossroadsArtCo reflects both a physical place and a sense of grounding in the quiet, outdoor life that shaped me. I find a deep satisfaction in the transformation of a blank canvas—the process of bringing life to a white surface and creating something where nothing existed before. Through my work, I aim to preserve a connection to nature—and to the moments and places that formed me—one brushstroke at a time.
